Manufacturing Processes
Worm Wheel Hobbing
High-speed hobbing is the primary manufacturing method for bronze and cast iron worm wheels. We use precision hobs matched to your worm shaft profile to ensure correct tooth geometry and optimal contact pattern. Hobbing, grinding, and inspection are all in-house at our Nantong facility — see how we work as a worm gear manufacturer.
Worm Wheel Shaving
Shaving improves tooth surface finish and profile accuracy after hobbing. Reduces noise and improves meshing quality for medium to high-speed applications.
Worm Wheel Grinding
For highest precision requirements, we offer worm wheel grinding to achieve DIN 6-7 grade accuracy. Essential for RV reducers, precision indexing tables, and aerospace applications.
Material Selection Guide
Phosphor Bronze (CuSn8P)
Best for general industrial applications. Excellent wear resistance, low friction, good machinability. Standard choice for elevator, automotive, and valve actuator worm wheels.
Aluminum Bronze (CuAl10Fe3)
Higher strength than phosphor bronze. Excellent seawater corrosion resistance. Ideal for marine, offshore, mining, and heavy-duty industrial reducers.
Gray Cast Iron (EN-GJL-250)
Low-cost option for low-speed, light-duty applications. Good vibration damping. Suitable for manual operators, agricultural equipment, and prototyping.

Frequently Asked Questions - Worm Wheels
What materials are available for worm wheels?
We manufacture worm wheels in phosphor bronze (CuSn8P) for standard duty, aluminum bronze (CuAl10Fe3) for heavy-duty marine and industrial applications, and gray cast iron (EN-GJL-250) for low-speed budget applications.
Why is bronze preferred for worm wheels?
Bronze offers excellent wear resistance against hardened steel worm shafts, low friction coefficient in sliding contact, and good emergency running properties if lubrication is temporarily lost.
What tooth profiles do you manufacture?
We produce ZA (Archimedes), ZN (involute), ZI (straight-sided), and ZK (milled) tooth profiles depending on your worm shaft geometry and application requirements.
Can you add custom features to worm wheels?
Yes, we provide custom bores, keyways, splines, set screw holes, flange mounting, and set-screw locking configurations per your drawing.
What is the maximum diameter you can manufacture?
Our current capacity is up to 1,000mm diameter for worm wheels. Larger diameters available on request with extended lead times.
